Wann wir kaum geboren werden,/Ist vom ersten Lebenstritt/Bis zum kühlen Grab der Erden,/Nur ein kurz gemeß’ner Schritt./Ach! mit jedem Augenblick/Gehet uns’re Kraft zurück;/Und wir sind mit jedem Jahre,/Alle reif zur Todten=Bahre!
O! wer weiß, in welcher Stunde,/Uns die letzte Stimme weckt;/Denn Gott hat’s mit seinem Munde,/Keinem Menschen noch endeckt!/Wer sein Haus nun wohl bestellt,/Geht mit Freuden aus der Welt:/Da die Sicherheit hingegen,/Ewig’s Sterben kann erregen.

Ich bin getauft! ich steh’ im Bunde,/Durch meine Tauf mit meinem Gott!/So sprech ich stets mit frohem Munde,/In Kreuz, in Trübsal, Angst und Noth,/Ich bin getauft! des freu ich mich,/Die Freude bleibt mir ewiglich.

To these spouses, William Hamscher and his wife Angelina a born Fenstermacher is a son born, the 19th day of March in the year of our Lord 1846. This son was born in Longswamp Township in Berks County in the state of Pennsylvania in North America, was baptized and received the name Joseph Heinrich the 19th day of April in the year of our Lord 1846 by Mister Pastor C. Herman. The baptismal sponsors were Joseph Hamscher and his wife Maria. Printed and for sale by Blumer and Busch. 1846.

This certificate is for the brother of James Hamscher, whose certificate is PAG1998.208, very similar except that on the latter the angels face outwards. Both were inscribed by the same scrivener. A third certificate for a Hamscher child is also in Stopp, 1:192.
