Wann wir kaum gebohren werden,/Ist vom ersten Lebenstritt/Bis zum kühlen Grab der Erden,/Nur ein kurz gemeß’ner Schritt./Ach! mit jedem Augenblick/Gehet unsre Kraft zurück;/Und wir sind mit jedem Jahre,/ Alle reif zur Todten=Bahre!

O! wer weiß in welcher Stunde,/uns die letzte Stimme weckt;/Denn Gott hat’s mit seinem Munde,/Keinem Menschen noch entdeckt./Wer sein Haus nun wohl bestellt;/Geht mit Freuden aus der Welt:/Da die Sicherheit hingegen,/Ewig’s Sterben kann erregen.

Den/Ehegatten,/Johann Adam Leiß/und seiner Frau Catharina/eine geborne Miller/ist ein Sohn geboren werden, den 16 August/ im Jahr unsers Herrn 1844/Dieser Sohn ist geboren in Heidelberg/Taunschip Bercks Caunty,/im Staat Pensylvani in/Nord=Amerika, ist getauft worden und erhielt den Namen/Johann Heinrich/den 6 Tag October im Jahr/unsers Herrn 1844 von Herrn Pf Pauli/Taufzeugen waren:/Johann/Klein und seine frau Julian/Allentown, Pa./Gedruckt und zu haben bei Blumer und Busch/1845.

Ich bin getauft! ich steh’ im Bunde,/Durch meine Tauf mit meinem Gott!/So sprech ich stets mit frohem Munde,/In Kreuz, in Trübsal, Angst und Noth,/Ich bin getauft, des freu ich mich,/Die Freude bleibt mir ewiglich!

Ich bin getauft in deinem Namen,/Gott, Vater, Sohn und heiliger Geist!/Ich bin gezählt zu deinem Saamen,/

Zum Volk, das Dir geheiligt heißt./O! welch ein Glück ward da durch mein,/Herr, laß mich dessen würdig seyn!

To these spouses, Johann Adam Leiß and his wife Catharina a born Miller was a son born, the 16th day of August in the year of our Lord 1844. This son was born in Heidelberg Township Berks County in the state of Pennsylvania in North America, was baptized and received the name Johann Heinrich the 6th day of October in the year of our Lord 1844 by Mister Pastor Pauli. The baptismal sponsors were Johann Klein and his wife Julian. Allentown, Pa. Printed and for sale by Blumer and Busch. 1845.
