Comments

A volume from the private library of the Reverend John Henry Augustus Bomberger (1817-1890), founder and first President of Ursinus College.

Ebrard was a Reformed theologian in Germany (mainly at Erlangen) who sympathized with Bomberger's and others' efforts to "save" the Reformed Church in the United States from the "high-church," "Puseyite" theologies and liturgics typical of the Mercersburg movement. Like Isaac Dorner on the continent, Ebrard was at first in sympathy with some of the tenets of Nevin and Schaff, but later repudiated them - much to the delight of Bomberger and the Ursinus group within the denomination.
