A volume from the private library of the Reverend John Henry Augustus Bomberger (1817-1890), founder and first President of Ursinus College.
Thiersch was a German pastor in the Irvingite or "Apostolic" Church movement in England and on the continent. Contact with the Irvingites in the 1850s is credited with having influenced Philip Schaff's "high church" emphases throughout his work on a suitable liturgy for the Reformed Church in the United States. Since Bomberger served with Schaff on that project, the Thiersch volume may have been exchanged between them.
