Description
Sculpted human head, formed from clay, soil and Sculptamold with wire weaved throughout. This temporary sculpture was created by Ursinus College students in linked Art and Biology classes in conjunction with World Soil Day.
The sculpture was installed on a bench in Strassburger Commons.
Student Statement
The soil challenge we have depicted is the relationship between soil and humans. Soil is essential for our survival, and we are degrading it at rapid rates. This sculpture represents our connectedness to earth and soil with wire weaving its way throughout the head, the wire being covered in Sculptamold and soil. Using materials that come from the earth to create this sculpture brings home the message of unity.
