Comment

The Bracketed Dates scrivener is distinguished by his practice of placing a bracket or underscore under the years of birth and baptism. He also frequently added small embellishments to the printed fonts in red ink, as he did in this example. This Taufschein may be an edition that was not included in Stopp’s work. The given edition has “Staat____” and “Nordamerica” printed on it, whereas this edition has only “S___” and “N___” printed on it. This Taufscheine was made for a person born in Switzerland. It is possible that the original form was somehow altered or erased so that the full text was not printed on it. Because this is uncertain, however, the date for the second edition is being assigned to this piece.
