Lititz Pa., Feb. 11, 1949

Dear Mr. Shoemaker,

In my family a pie such as you mentioned in your Local Folklore this evening was called a Milk Custard because after combining the flour, brown sugar and cinnamon we put dabs of butter over it and then poured milk over it and when it is baked it is a delicious sweet custard. I am not Penna. Dutch but I do enjoy reading your Folklore.

While on the subject of pies did you ever hear of an apple butter pie that had stripes of dough placed over the top in this manner? I cannot tell you what the Penna. Dutch name for it is, but the name means suspender pie.
