The Ruby Yearbooks, 1897-2020
This is a collection of digitized copies of the Ruby, the Ursinus College yearbook, from 1897 to 2020.
The publication was named in honor of the highly esteemed professor, Samuel Vernon Ruby, and was published each year by the Junior class until 1920. The Ruby became a Senior publication that year. Due to financial concerns and the outbreak of war, no Ruby was published in 1919. As of 2021, the Ruby has ceased publication.
Issues of the Ruby provide a glimpse of life at Ursinus College as presented by its students. In addition to information about sports, clubs and Greek organizations one will find dedications and profiles of the people who shaped the history of the college as well as coverage of traditional events from May Days and Lorelei dances to Homecomings and Graduations. Early volumes track the changing structure of education at Ursinus, from the School of Theology and focus on Literary Societies to the formation of a Group System. Early volumes contain literary and humor sections which disappeared once other creative outlets such as The Lantern were formed. Glancing through the Ruby also provides one with a fascinating look at the history of Collegeville and the surrounding area through photos, stories and local business advertisements.
