Description

This two-page copy of an after action report on the Wounded Knee occupation was sent on May 23, 1973 to the Army's Director of Military Support as a supplement to a previously submitted report. It details the potential deployment of the 82nd Airborne Division to support the seizure of Wounded Knee by force, the complexities and optics involved in this strategy, and the eventual negotiation with the participants of the occupation. The report notes the outcomes achieved by members of the American Indian Movement including the reorganization of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
