In the Spring of 2022 Ursinus College, the Perkiomen Valley School District and the Delaware Tribe of Indians committed to a partnership that increases understanding and awareness of the history and culture of the Lenape people in the Perkiomen Valley region and its surrounding communities. The Welcome Home Project honors the legacy of the Lenape people, who for thousands of years inhabited parts of Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania - including the Collegeville area.
The Welcome Home Project has led to classroom visits by tribal representatives, a land acknowledgement statement, a Lenape symposium, Library exhibits and more.
