Dear Mr. President:

The request that you yourself send a telegraph timed exactly to arrive during the dinner party of the Harvard Cosmopolitan Club seems rather out of proportion and in response to your inquiry contained in Mr. Carpenter's note of the 10th instant I submit the accompanying telegram, which, if this course meet your approval I shall sign and send. I think this would be quite adequate in response to the request of Mr. von Kaltenborn.
