I find it impossible to free myself from an engagement which, to my great regret, makes it impossible for me to have the honor of accepting the kind invitation to dinner tomorrow evening which you and Mr. Espinosa have been so kind as to send me.

With many regrets and acknowledgements, and with the hope of having the pleasure of seeing you in New York, I am, my dear Dr. Gonzalez,
