Project Description
My research was about analyzing how computer scientists are portrayed in the media. The idea was to do a project that somehow combined ideas of computer science and theater, being that I am a Computer Science major that has done a lot of theater here at Ursinus. I ultimately decided to go with this subject because I wondered how I would act if I was tasked with playing a “computer scientist”. The issue was that most of the computer scientist characters that I could think of were either exaggerated on purpose because of the nature of the film/show that they were in or weren’t realistic enough for my tastes. This was why I decided to handle this research project the way that I did; my goal was to analyze computer scientists in fiction and find out how these portrayals may affect the perceptions of real computer scientists and the field of computer science as a whole. I then wanted to make a short play poking fun at these portrayals in a comedic way.
