Artist statement:
"U.S. Route 40 was constructed in 1926 and originally stretched from Atlantic City, New Jersey to San Francisco, California. Along its miles of pavement, families shared road trip memories that only a stifling car in mid-summer and cheap hotels can bring; young men and women first learned how to drive a stick shift as their nervous parents sat beside them; funeral processions depressed whole cities at a time; and soldiers returned home again from wars in foreign lands. Roadways, such as Route 40, are not mere passageways helpful in getting from here to there; they are the grounds for life and death and everything in between. Every inch of asphalt sparks a memory. Here are a few shots from the road..."
