[Dear Eleanor:]
[The young people of Ursinus are losing a wonderful opportunity, that of working under and learning from you.]
[You have been the inspiration for many teachers and coaches in the Delaware Valley. I can remember back to the fall of 1931 (my Sophomore year) when you first came to Ursinus. My three years as a student and the seven years as a fledgling teacher with you were happy ones. You are everything a woman "P. E. 'er" should be: a wise, understanding and knowing teacher, one whose choice of words has made the English language a beautiful and living thing; a guiding hand to young teachers; a wonderful friend under many and varied circumstances.]
[I wish for you a full and rewarding future. May you have as much happiness as you have brought to the many young people who have been privileged to know you.]
[Our memories of you (Syd's and mine) are such pleasant ones. He joins me in saying "Thank you."]
[Lovingly]
["Smo"]
