Dear Dr. Shoemaker
I read your old Berks and Lanc Co Folklore Legends and History which I enjoy very much and a many thing is mentioned that I recall my parents talked about. My dad is 83 years old and was raised in Denver and Adamstown Lanc Co and he can tell us a many a story of olden times and happenings. My dad Lemon K Leed used to drive the stage from Adamstown to Reading and from Adamstown to Denver.
You asked in one of your papers if any one knew of men wearing ear rings. My grand daddy Moses Weinhold wore ear rings and also beads they called them putra or Kurellas (meaning beads). I have the earrings and also some of the beads he wore them for some pain in his head and eyes the beads they wore around the neck for they call it (fluss putra). I do not know what the English name would be. I also remember about the black and white lady walking in Adamstown die Weiss frau un die schwartz frau.
I also remember them talking about the Eurich Yeeger we children were terrible afraid when my parents and neighbors talk about them.
I must close excuse writing and mistakes as I am not a good letter writer.
Yours
Mrs. Elmer L. Krick
