Providence Independent Newspaper, 1875-1898
The Providence Independent was a local newspaper in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Founded by Elwood S. Moser in June of 1875, the publishing house was originally located in the village of Trappe, but moved to Collegeville in 1883. In 1898, the newspaper changed its name to The Independent. In 1952, it merged with the Montgomery Transcript to become The Independent and Montgomery Transcript.
The digital copies of the newspaper available here were produced in cooperation between Ursinus College and Historic Trappe.
