Stored in box measuring 8 x 6 x 3 cm.
Description
The pocket watch movement (serial number 400210) was produced by the American Watch Company, circa 1868-1869. The 18 karat gold case (serial number 16330) was manufactured by D. F. C. and Company.
An inscription on the case lid reads: "Presented to Rev. J. H. A. Bomberger D.D. By the Ursinus College Union, June 25th, 1874.” The watch may have been given on this Commencement day to mark the 5th anniversary of the College.
The watch is stored in a cloth bag inside a box. The bottom of the box is labeled: "Wm. H. Crawford & Co. New York, Baltimore." The top of the box is labeled: "Ironclad box. Robert Gair. New York, Brooklyn."
