Comments
A volume from the private library of the Reverend John Henry Augustus Bomberger (1817-1890), founder and first President of Ursinus College.
Besser was known on the continent, among other things, as a Lutheran opponent throughout the 1840s of the continuing Prussian Union Church of 1817.
A handwritten note on page 221 of the second volume reads: "The author is an ultra Lutheran - holds to baptismal regeneration. And yet here, addressing a congregation of persons, who, probably without an exception, had been baptized, applies such words! Blessed inconsistency! The plain truth of the Gospel gets the better of his false theology."
38 foliage specimens were discovered preserved in the leaves of this volume.
