Description
Students created colorful glass projects in the interdisciplinary course "Form and Fusion: The Art and Science of Ceramics and Glass" at Ursinus College in Spring 2026. In this photo pieces of glass stars and outer space are held together outside. This project, part of a larger team outer space theme, was presented to the campus as part of the Celebration of Student Achievement on April 29, 2026.
Student Statement
My aim was to make a backdrop for the other pieces on my team. With my time crunch and slow pacing with the project, I changed my aim to be something that would complement their pieces and fill in some space. I also wanted to capture what I found most notable about space, which to me was the not-so-quite pitch blackness of space that gets broken up by the stars, so the choice to use non see-through glass was on purpose. I think that's the most important part of my piece. The reason why it was broken up was due to an accident, and the glass not holding up its own weight, though I think that made it turn out all the better.
