Description

Students created colorful glass projects in the interdisciplinary course "Form and Fusion: The Art and Science of Ceramics and Glass" at Ursinus College in Spring 2026. In this photo a completed glass Saturn rests outside on a rock. This project, part of a larger team outer space theme, was presented to the campus as part of the Celebration of Student Achievement on April 29, 2026.

Student Statement

As part of our space theme, I tried my best to make the Big Dipper, also known as Ursa Major. Ursa means bear, which is why Ursinus College has the bear mascot. I chose different pieces for the stars, the smaller polygonal pieces and the bigger circular pieces. The bigger pieces represent the major stars of the constellation. As for the Saturn piece, I intended it to stand on its own so it has black pieces to support it from the backside.
