My dear Mr. President:

The New Minister of Switzerland, Dr. Paul Ritter, has requested under date of June third an audience for the purpose of presenting his letter of credence. He has also submitted to the Department copy of his letter and of the remarks which he proposes to make. Copy of the remarks, together with a draft of reply, are submitted herewith.

In order to make reply to Dr. Ritter I have the honor to request that you will kindly indicate some day and hour when it may be convenient to you to receive the Minister. In view of the date of the request for an audience I venture to suggest that if convenient some day in the middle or latter part of the present week may be suitable as allowing the lapse of the usual interval of, say, between five and ten days between such requests and the time fixed for audience.

I have the honor to be, Mr. President, with great respect,

Yours sincerely,

[signature]

To the President.
