It was a great disappointment to me not to see you today. I had to spend two minutes finishing a telegram of great urgency and was very sorry to find you had gone after the lapse of so brief an interval.

With many thanks for your kind good wishes to me in this post, and begging you to present my compliments to Mrs. Straus and your daughters, I remain, always, with kindest regards,
