My dear Mr. Carpenter:
Dr. Clay MacCauley is a Minister of the Unitarian Church and will preach next Sunday at All Souls' Church, which he himself organized. He is an old hand in the Far East, and is very familiar with Japan and the Philippines. Dr. MacCauley would be happy to have [the honor of] an opportunity to pay his respects to the President, if it were convenient to indicate a time when he may present himself.
Will you please let me know the pleasure of the President in the matter?
Yours sincerely,
[signature]
Fred W. Carpenter, Esquire,
Secretary to the President.
