Dear Captain Butt:

This paper shows the misinformation I had Saturday morning: Please look it over and return it to me, with a detailed statement (1) of the procedure at these audiences for Ambassadors, and (2) for Ministers. I shall be greatly obliged if you will do this for me. It is really ridiculous that these simple things are not defined with absolute certainty and I shall be most happy to co-operate in the endeavor to get them well settled and understood.

Very sincerely yours,

[signature]

Captain Archibald W. Butt, U.S. Army,
Aide de camp to the President,
The White House.
