My dear Mr. Peirce:
Please give yourself no concern about the reported idea of Mr. and Mrs. Jaspar Whitney that they called and their cards were not returned. I know so well your punctiliousness in such matters that you need not have taken the trouble to explain the matter even if it were one of which I had heard. As it was, I had not heard of it.
Please present my compliments to Mrs. Peirce, and believe me,
