Dear Mr. Norton:
Your letter of August fourth remains still unanswered owing to my recent absence from Washington. I shall be most happy to propose Mr. Crane for membership in the Metropolitan Club so soon as you can let me know that he surely wishes to join. I notice that in you letter you say you think he does. Directly you find it convenient to get your information on this point I shall hasten to give myself the pleasure of proposing him, -- always assuming that the delay in my reply shall not have deprived me of the pleasure of doing so.
With kind regards, I remain, always,
Yours sincerely,
The Honorable Charles D. Norton,
Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
