Project Description
Scientists are guided by how their research impacts the world outside their labs. Researchers are driven to publish to inform further science, but communication goes beyond these formal publications. To connect science to the world it is important to employ a variety of communication tools and skills. This thinking applies to scientific research as a whole and includes specific targets of communication depending on the field.
This research focuses primarily on agricultural research and how communication is and should be conducted in this field. My investigation includes scientific, written, and reflective components. I explored areas of the scientific community, agricultural production, and my own place in the world. Through this work I have attempted to answer: 1) how one produces good scientific communications for both expert and non-expert audiences and 2) what tools are most effective for agricultural research to communicate findings to farmers.
