Project Description

Mirrored Frequencies is a four-episode long script that intertwines elements of fantasy storytelling with the expectations of academia. This semester, the authors produced an audio drama from these scripts with the help of on-campus voice actors.

The story follows Atlas, a grad student at a prestigious university as they continue a previous student’s research into the significance of multiple stained-glass windows, which allegedly function as portals to different worlds (a comment that led to the original student being ousted from their research position). Naila and Leo tell Atlas’s story through a collection of audio recordings taken on inconspicuous, wearable technology supplied to them by their university. In Mirrored Frequencies, this hidden recording procedure is required for documenting and authenticating all first-person encounters in the world of academia. This project raises questions on the ethics of participating in systems of surveillance and exploitation when they become a fundamental component of your profession.
