This CIE common event for first-year students at Ursinus College, "Stacks on Stacks", is inspired by Nina Katchadourian's "Sorted Books Project". Students are paired together and assigned a particular stack, or range of books, in Myrin Library. They must explore the shelves looking for book titles that can be combined together in some poetic or narrative way. Students then draw their chosen book "stacks" onto stickers which are adhered to the ends of the Library stacks.
There is no right or wrong answer to this assignment. The goal of the team should be to come up with as many combinations and sequences as they can in the time allowed, choose the best one, then create a representative drawing of it for the installation. Read more about the event here.
