Abstract
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a national non-profit organization that works to cultivate social, emotional, behavioral, and physical skills in young girls. Girls on the Run uses a detailed, research-based curriculum to deliver its physical activity-based positive youth development program (PA-PYD). Research shows that PA-PYD programs are an effective means of improving confidence and connection, among other social and personal skills, in participants. This poster outlines the requirements for and benefits of PYD programs in general, as well as how Girls on the Run effectively uses this type of program approach to create positive change in young girls. The poster also briefly introduces my work as an intern with the local Girls on the Run council giving me first-hand experience of the benefits of such a program from a coach’s perspective.
