Artist Statement
I work primarily as a painter, but I like to take a mixed-media approach with many of my pieces. Mediums I use include acrylic paint, paint markers, oil pastels, and crochet. I use bright colors in my work to create a bouncy, joyful tone; my eclectic mix of mediums amplifies this. I curate my references to reflect the variety of things that inspire my work: what makes me happy, what I think is interesting, what I find funny, or what haunts me in the middle of the night. All of my pieces have a bit of humor to them. I do this by including a mix of pop culture references, personal memories, and nature imagery - why not create a painting with rhinestones, Vanilla Mace memes, and a childhood Cinderella costume photo? My work is a representation of my favorite things; it's like putting my brain onto the canvas.
