Artist Statement

Through oil painting, I explore the relationship between bright colors and abstract compositions. Using bold, vivid colors, I intend to draw the viewer in by inviting them to feel a sense of power and energy. Each color I choose to use in my artwork is intentional and serves as an opportunity for imagination and reflection of positivity. These bright colors I use in my artwork display my positive, happy, colorful personality. Maintaining an optimistic mindset is something I pride myself on and I am extremely grateful to be able to express that through my artwork.

As I create abstract compositions, I focus on making a meaningful connection between my personal life and art. By taking note of shapes, textures, and brushstrokes, I create a balance of technical skill and the deeper meaning behind the composition. When choosing a composition to paint, I consider people who are influential in my life as well as special memories I hold close. Being able to be spontaneous yet controlled, I embrace the fluidity of oil paint and its unique ability to maintain structure. The thickness of the medium allows for layering and movement that displays as textural elements in my pieces, welcoming the viewer to look closer.

Overall, my paintings allow me to explore bold colors in an abstract form that conveys a personal meaning. The abstract nature of the pieces leaves room for each viewer to have their own experience and indulge in what their interpretation means to them.
