Description
Oil on canvas painting depicting a nude figure in a shower. Presented as part of the 2024 Annual Student Exhibit in the Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College.
Artist Statement
My paintings explore trans-masculinity and the body’s interpersonal relationship with humanity. Using overly sanded canvases and synthetic brushes and pigments, my paintings are made to represent the work of human hands throughout the entirety of the process, not only the finished product. I compose my paintings in different ways so that the figure is either close to, open to, dismissive of, or interacting with the viewer. These nuances in gesture and pose draw out raw person-to-person empathy in viewers, playing on relatable facets of life to entice familiarity. My paintings speak for the human body, both in its presentation and the language it speaks.
