Artist Statement
Creativity is all around us, in everything we see, and I bring this to light with my art. Each idea comes from a place of trying to find art in the ordinary, and each work begins as a brainstorm page within my sketchbook, later turning into a fully thought-out project. This brainstorming process and subsequent creation period is as important as the end work itself, often leading to a final product completely different from the original idea. Many of my works are mixed media, with both painted and sculptural elements. These sculptural elements are often larger than life, showing versions of everyday objects in a scaled up form. The works have strong ties to pop culture and reference objects and situations within daily life. The art I make is for anyone, as anyone can recognize and relate to it due to the common nature of the objects. This theme of common subjects shown in unnatural ways forces viewers to stop and think about the art in front of them, reckoning with how it relates to their daily life and personal experience.
