Artist Statement
My work focuses on realistic technicality and often incorporates heavy color contrast or graphic elements to highlight subjects of a piece. I’m interested in how the graphic arts can be influenced by studio arts such as drawing and painting, and where these media intersect. This series represents adolescent landmarks that significantly impacted my character and personal development as a woman and artist. Each setting represents a milestone that embodies core memories of mine, of which have positive, negative, and neutral connotations in their recollection. The progression of these pieces, as well as their differences in size, represents my artistic journey in material experimentation and exploration. Personal historic pieces surround each landmark, representing art projects throughout my life so far, further demonstrating my artistic development as a whole. The language incorporated with each piece is meant to reflect some of the doubts I have had through my artistic journey thus far. Each phrase represents the “noise” that warps and corrupts these personal pieces, hence the phrase “just block out the noise” as my attempt to learn to live and forget these harmful reflections. Influenced by art that explores new media in hyper-realistic ways and personal reflection post-pandemic, I am creating an art that analyzes these concepts and their impact on my overall image as an artist.
