Artist Statement

My work focuses on immersing the viewer in the strange and bizarre. The dark, outrageous, and theatrical tone of my art creates scenes in which participants can explore and discover new ways to interact with the work as a whole. Using mostly found objects (such as faux fur vests) and clay, I've made fantastical creatures and scenes that one might find in a horror movie or a fairytale. Much of my work is inspired by our relationship with animals and how we often fail to see them as more than decoration, commodities, or pests to be snuffed out. With a focus on sculpture, I've created pieces that encourage viewers to stretch their imaginations and take a dip into the macabre. Using my hands to morph everyday objects into these sculptures has empowered me to trust my artistic abilities and instinct.
