Artist Statement
This collection references societal issues impacting the younger generations. Throughout history, there are many examples of younger generations being impacted by decisions made without their voices being heard. From general worry and panic, the mystery of the future, to mental and physical health issues, the state of the world today greatly affects young people. I created this body of work in hopes that others who can relate will feel a sense of comfort knowing that they are understood. I feel that the younger generation’s voices are often dismissed by people in higher power, so hopefully by shedding some light on these subjects, that can change.
My work combines varying forms of media – paintings, mixed media and found objects, and installations – but these different approaches work together because it gives the viewer the opportunity to dive deeper into the viewing experience. By using different types of media, it allows my work to have my own personal touch, in addition to making these particular issues an interactive experience. I hope that addressing these issues in this manner will allow for more conversation among the public, and I hope that this will be a segue into getting young voices heard and included when discussing and problem solving in the future.
