Most athletes at Ursinus College are so focused on their daily practices and academic responsibilities that they often overlook the people working behind the scenes every day. One of the most underappreciated and taken-for-granted groups is the Ursinus sports media department. Our Athletic Communications (AC) staff largely made up of students and athletes provides video and photo coverage for every sporting event held on campus. The Ursinus Athletics Instagram page, one of the most active and engaging accounts at the college, highlights the achievements and milestones of our teams. At the head, behind all this coverage and chaos is Ursinus’ own Justin Jones.
Justin grew up in Smyrna, Delaware, where his passion for sports commentating and camera work began back in high school. After graduating, he attended the University of Lynchburg, continuing with broadcasting. Following college, he worked at ESPN for several years until COVID shut much of the sports world down. Justin then returned to Delaware and soon found a new opportunity at Ursinus College. There, he took the lead in revamping the athletic program’s social media presence and began mentoring students in modern sports broadcasting and camera work.
Justin has always been driven to help students gain hands-on experience. He actively invites students to join his team and learn directly from his expertise. His favorite part of working at Ursinus is watching student-athletes grow, celebrating their records, championships, and personal development. Now living nearby with his wife, he expects their first child this fall. Justin remains committed to teaching and showcasing the behind-the-scenes work that makes Ursinus sports shine, proving that the people off the field are just as important as the stars on it.
