After the Adler printshop was purchased from Carl Kessler in 1864 by William Ritter and associates, the firm was run under the name “Ritter & Co.” Kessler was the son of Johann Ritter’s partner (and brother-in-law) from 1804-1823, Carl Kessler Sr.
