Ist getauft und erhielt den/Namen Diana Catharina/den 4ten/Juni im Jahr unser/Herrn 1842 von Herrn Baschler[?]/Taufzeugen waren:/Jacob Härzel und seine/Ehefrau Catharina/Gedruckt und zu haben bei/Guth, Ruhe und Young,/Allentaun, Pa.

Birth and Baptismal Certificate. To both of these spouses, Samuel Young and his wife Anna Maria a born Diefenschied is a little daughter born the 2nd day of April in the year of our Lord, 1842 in Washington Township, Berks County, in the state of Pennsylvania in North America. Was baptized and received the name Diana Catharina the 4th day of June in the year of our Lord 1842 by Mister Baschler[?]. The baptismal sponsors were Jacob Härzel and his legal wife Catharina. Printed and for sale by Guth, Ruhe, and Young, Allentown, Pa.

This is the only edition of a Taufschein from the printshop of Reuben Guth, Augustus Ruhe and William Young. Adolph Sage used the same angels earlier on his certificates. Although Stopp gives the date range as 1849-1852, the certificate is printed “184_.” To confuse matters further, in a timeline of Allentown Taufscheine printing, Stopp gives the dates of the Guth, Ruhe, and Young operation as 1845-1846.This piece is clearly imprinted with all three of their names but Stopp dates it to 1849-1852.
