Translation

Birth and Baptismal Certificate.

When we are just born…

To both of these spouses, George Sandt and his wife Rebecka a born Happel is a son to the world born, the 30th day in January in the year of Christ 1845. This son was born in Plainfield Township Northampton County in the state of Pennsylvania, in North America; and was baptized the 13th day of April A.D. 1845 by Reverend Mister Suchs and received the name Thomas Sandt. The baptismal sponsors were the parents themselves. The said was confirmed the day A.D. 18 by the Reverend Mister preacher.

From you, oh God, comes every gift. Only your embrace alone can me with all that I have need, to my true benefit delight, My life and my fortune rest alone on you, you highest good. Without GOD, is only want.

I was baptized, I stand in the union…/Printed by S. Siegfried, St. John’s Church.

Comment

Samuel Siegfried moved his printing business from Millgrove in 1834 to Bath, and then on to Howertown in 1841. In Howertown, he was an organist at St. John’s Church, which he included as his address on his printed Taufscheine such as this one. About 1845 he sold his printing business to John Dreisbach.
