Translation

Birth and Baptismal Certificate!/Elisabetha Hummel is born of honorable Christian Christian parents the 30th day of September at o’clock in the year 1795 after the birth of our Lord Jesus, in the state of Pennsylvania in Berks County, in Windsor Township and is baptized the 30th day of October A[nn]o [Domini] 1795 by Mister Pastor Dan. Lehmann. The parents are the father Georg Hummel and his legal wife the mother Barbara Heist born Kamp. Baptismal sponsors are Jacob Hummel and his wife Elisabetta.

Be faithful until death so I want to give you the Crown of Life. Revelation [of] John 2:10.

She was [in the] year 1811 the 24th of April by Mister Pastor Ulrich in the Evangelist Lutheran religion confirmed.

Comment

“Seine Ehefrau” (his legal wife) is carefully crossed out, which could possibly indicate an illegitimate birth. Further evidence of this is that the mother, Barbara Heist, was or had been married at least once as her maiden name was Kamp. As neither of her given surnames was Hummel, the name of the father, it makes this situation all the more intriguing.
