“Seine Ehefrau” (his legal wife) is carefully crossed out, which could possibly indicate an illegitimate birth. Further evidence of this is that the mother, Barbara Heist, was or had been married at least once as her maiden name was Kamp. As neither of her given surnames was Hummel, the name of the father, it makes this situation all the more intriguing
