My dear Mr. Cutting:
I am very glad we are able to keep your post open for you in order to give you the necessary time to recuperate. I hope your convalescence will be rapid and complete.
Since the extra time given to you will be without compensation you can perfectly well spend it in Europe under the name of "additional period in transit", quite as well as you might spend it here under the name of "additional period for instructions".
With best wishes, I remain, my dear Mr. Cutting,
Yours very faithfully,
W. Bayard Cutting,Jr.,Esquire,
1612 K Street, Northwest.
