Personal and Confidential.
December 7, 1909.
My dear Mr. Baldwin:
Responding to your telegram received this afternoon I enclose two very rough memoranda about the Alsop case. They will serve as notes for your purpose of editorial writing. Of course, they are given confidentially and only as such. None of the contents to be used as of Departmental origin. Now that this very important case, inherited in its final and difficult stage from the last Administration, has been brought to such a happy conclusion I think this is an augury of good relations with Chile and a proof of conciliatory policy of the two Governments.
Yours very sincerely,
Elbert F. Baldwin, Esquire,
287 Fourth Avenue,
New York City.
