Creation Date

Spring 2025

Description

This book stack was created by a first-year student at Ursinus College participating in a Common Intellectual Experience event. After a group "Stacks on Stacks" activity in Fall 2024, students were invited to submit their own individual creations in Spring 2025.

Student Statement

In trying to find a way to do this project, I decided to not go to the library not just because currently I'm having horrible hip pain which makes walking on campus a burden, but also because I have a decent amount of books in my dorm from classes and from my own personal interests. The general theme of the stack was to be an abstract representation of what I do to educate myself about the world, along with entertainment properties I find enjoyment in and/or both at the same time. It's a bit of a balancing act, since I can't just synthesize all that information in a vacuum, and sometimes it can be rather overwhelming to be aware of the true extent of the flaws in just about everything we interact with. It's a manageable plan that whenever we're in a rough patch, it's almost never a sign of bad character to occasionally disengage. You just have to remember to reengage whenever you're ready.

As an autistic/queer/covid-conscious individual living in the world today, being overwhelmed by an avalanche of negative news has just been the state of things for a long time. I made this stack to somewhat channel my feelings and coping mechanisms for dealing with all this, so that I can keep going.
