Student Exhibition Year
Acrylic glow-in-the-dark painting depicting outer space. Presented as part of the 2023 Annual Student Exhibit in the Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College.
Art, history, and aliens. This might be an interesting title for a science-fiction film, but instead this is a perfect way to describe my artistic philosophy. Through my years at Ursinus College, my artwork has evolved to include these interrelated themes and a connected narrative.
My focus is creating cartoons that display a humorous and unique view. I place famous historical persons into alternate time periods and alien worlds, where they must adapt to an unexpected existence from what they are used to. Strange and sinister beings will often make a guest appearance! My artwork therefore provides the viewer with a parallel perspective of the past.
I have always enjoyed drawing cartoons dealing with subjects like science fiction, aliens, and outer space. Using colored pencils, charcoal, paint (acrylic and glow in the dark), markers, and collages, I aim to provide entertainment and controlled chaos for my audience. My characters learn about each other’s different customs, mannerisms, and traditions, while I include a light-hearted touch of time travel.
I use historical figures from the fields of politics, science, and religion, and my work draws influence from the Night at the Museum movies as well as animated series like Clone High. I am always seeking new and intriguing historical characters to work with. I want to encourage viewers to enjoy the subject of history with the knowledge that my cartoons will always have a surprise waiting for them.
Using history in this manner is an excellent way for me to communicate my artistic ideas. My art can play a role in helping us gain a better appreciation and understanding of the differences we have that make life so colorful and interesting. Hopefully this can lead to a society of greater acceptance for all.
I hope everyone enjoys my artwork.
