Artist Statement

I make art out of many different mediums, but I primarily use oil paints. Using oil paints brings my paintings back to their core, foundational practices when the great masters of painting thrived within the medium. They have created works of art unimaginable, so using this medium gives me inspiration to create great works as well. Creating works with digital media is a paradox to oil painting, it ties together the past and future of artwork creation and helps me to expand my vision to the endless possibilities of creation and creativity. My artwork is inspired by my interpretation of the world around me– how people are affected by current events and the past; the influence of others and how that may change; and my own imagination. My artwork signifies my interpretation of all these things while cataloging memories and ideas.

This collection of work reflects on advancements in technology. These advancements remind me of the cyclical nature of human progress and how ideas are constantly reinvented to mean something new. Art, like currency, is an asset that people have used as leverage since the beginning of its creation. This collection explores the juxtaposition between currency and art and links their cycles of recreation as the same process. By incorporating more traditional, spiritual imagery with gold tokens that represent current cryptocurrencies and a snake to represent the cyclical nature of progress, I am showing the relationship between evolving ideologies and time. They are nothing but reinvented perspectives.
