Description

Digital photograph of Rob Coyle cosplaying as Captain America on the Ursinus College campus.

Panel Text

Rob Coyle is a Campus Safety officer here at Ursinus College. He has worked on campus for the last four years and feels that he will have a long term relationship working here. From the moment he stepped on campus he immediately felt a connection to Ursinus because of the school’s tight knit and supportive community. Before working at Ursinus College, Rob served as a United States Marine, and understands that his role does not always come with recognition. Rob feels as though his job is done when problems are resolved seamlessly. After serving our country, one of Rob’s friends introduced him to a cosplay group to acclimate him back into civilian life. The cosplay group mainly went to renaissance fairs, which often serve as a tool to get veterans used to being in large public crowds again. Rob’s friend not only introduced him into the world of cosplay, but they also served and enlisted in the Marines together and were support networks for one another in and out of the Marines. His friend started a charity raising awareness about veteran suicide rates cosplaying as Captain America. Unfortunately a few years ago Rob’s friend passed away, and handed Captain America’s mantle onto Rob. Rob now runs the charity, Shield for a Cause, which is dedicated to raising awareness for, and the prevention of veteran suicide through cosplay integration and inclusion.
