Cassie Mazza, student-turned-staff, is one of the spearheads of the Library and IT departments. Her official title is Performance Technology Engineer, but most of the students she works with simply call her friend. She usually works in the theatre, organizing set up and needs for events and shows. But some may not know that she does more than simply organize unruly students (much like the one writing this). Cassie worked as an event technician throughout her stint as an Ursinus student, and when an opportunity opened up in the fall, she jumped at it. Cassie returned to where her roots lay, the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center, to continue streamlining the tech crew, and help make Ursinus more artsy. She has a knack for organization and proper delegation that makes her, from my own experience, a joy to work both with and for. Along with her organizational skills, she is extremely smart and has a work ethic to boot. Her work outside of Ursinus, at a theatre in New Jersey, refined her ideas for the school as she had new personnel to work with as well as fresh eyes on her abilities; spoiler, they sang her praises almost as much as I do. Cassie has embraced working in the pandemic, allowing the flow to ebb, she has had to step up the technical aspect of things due to a lack of on site productions, and a shift towards virtual events. Cassie is, and has been – even when she wasn’t physically with the crew - the glue that helped hold the Event Techs together (along with Mr. Futter). While she may feel that she gets enough recognition for her work, I would say that no recognition is truly enough to show how much the crew appreciate both her and James. Event Technologies truly helps run the school properly, and Cass is one of the great minds behind it. For that, the students that work with her will forever be grateful. If Cass does decide to move on from UC, just know that her legacy will live on through the standards that she helped set, even before she was staff!
